5 Lb Light Dry Malt Extract ( remove 1-1/4 cup for priming)
4 oz. 60 L Crystal Malt crushed
8 oz. Cara-pils. malt crushed
6 oz. UK Chocolate crushed
1 oz. Black Malt (uncrushed)
8 oz. Flaked Oats
1 oz. E.K. Golding Leaf (Mash Hops)
1/4 oz Liberty hops (60 min.)
1/2 oz Liberty hops (30 min.)
3/4 oz. Willamette (30 min.)
1/4 oz. Willamette (1 min.)
1/4 oz Liberty ( 1 min.)
Whirlfloc (Irish Moss)
White labs British Ale Yeast WLP005
A Yeast starter is always recommended
70 minute Boil:
Mash all grains and oats with E.K. Golding Leaf (Mash Hops), in 1/2 gallon water @ 152 degrees for 45 minutes, Sparge with 1/2 gallon water @ 170 degrees very slowly. Add warm water to pot for 2-1/2 gallons volume. Add Dry Malt. Boil for 10 minutes then follow hops times. Add Irish Moss last 15 minute. Remove from heat swirl well to whirl pool, cool and let settle. Transfer to primary pitch yeast @ 68 degrees. Transfer to secondary when fermentation slows. Bottle with saved Dry malt.
