Home Made Soda

Six Easy Steps

    Items you will need

Soda Flavor - Yeast

1 gallon Water (Chlorine free is best)

2-1/4 cups Sugar

Stove, 8 - quart pot, paper towels, small piece of plastic wrap, and a 1 cup bowl.

                     First:

Prepare the Yeast:

In a small clean bowl. Add 1/4 cup of the chlorine free water. (room temperature, not hotter than 85 deg.) Sprinkle in the yeast, do not stir. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let stand for later use.

Install the spigot on the bucket with one washer inside and one outside. Turn the spigot at a slight angle down so it makes it easier to fill the bottles. The nut should be hand tight on the inside. Wash the bucket with mild soap, check the spigot for leaks and rinse. After rinsing the bucket. Fill the bucket with one gallon of warm water and 1 ea. Tablespoon of the 'One Step Sanitizer'. Mix very well with a clean spoon. Make sure all the Sanitizer powder is mixed completely. Set to the bucket with the sanitizer to the side for the next step.

                    Second:

Wash with mild soap and water all the bottles and caps  and rinse well inside and out. Place a bottle under the bucket spigot and fill the bottle with approximately 2 inches of the Sanitizer solution. Shake the Sanitizer around in the bottle well. Pour the Sanitizer out (NOT back into the bucket) and drain. Place the bottle, open end down to finish draining on a few sheets of paper towel. Repeat this with each bottle. Place the caps into a small bowl and cover with Sanitizer liquid. Pour out the sanitizer and let the cap air dry on a few sheets of paper towel. It is important the bottles and caps be sanitized and air dry before each use. Empty the bucket and let it drain and air dry, upside down on some paper towels.

Third:  While your Bottles, Caps and mixing bucket are drying

Place 1/2 gallon of water into a Clean pot and heat to Luke warm.  Add the sugar and blend completely. Add the 1ea. Tablespoon plus 1 Teaspoon of the Soda Flavoring. Blend well. Pour this mix into the sanitized bucket and add the remaining 1/2 gallon of water and blend well.

NOTE: Root Beer Mix SHOULD NOT be hotter than 75 degrees. (baby bottle temp.)

                    Forth:

Next Swirl to blend and add the Yeast mix to the bucket.   Fold in and blend well but do not splash mix.

                    Fifth:

Place a sanitized bottle under the end of the spigot, and open the valve slowly. Fill the bottle one inch from the top. The one-inch space is for the carbonation. Drain and place a Sanitized cap on the top of the bottle. Screw down tight. Stir mix lightly between each fill.  Continue until all the Soda is bottled.

                    Sixth:

The Soda should remain at room temperature (70-75 deg.) for 7-10 days before chilling.  Do not refrigerate until bottle is firm. When opening your Home Made Soda. Always try to pour into a glass slowly all at one time down the side. This will not disturb the small amount of sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

Enjoy. Try other flavors and adding spices for extra flavor. Also Honey instead of sugar.
